ACTIVISM
My experiences as a young Indigenous woman, primarily concerning my education, have led to my interest, involvement, and practice of standing for Indigenous rights. As I become involved, I find it naturally develops my character, integrity, and spirit. Also, I find that standing for Indigenous rights naturally leads to bringing visibility to the often invisible issues that plague Indigenous all across Turtle Island.
Being involved in activism has refined my resilience and further developed my inner strength. An example of this happened on June 14, 2022, when I bravely stood before The Mayor and City Council of Rochester, NY, and shared my experiences as a young Indigenous woman, among many others that evening. This was the monumental event where City Council unanimously voted for the legislative resolution for the second Monday of October to be permanently recognized as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the City of Rochester.
